Affordable Rental Homes
The Housing Fellowship has adopted innovative approaches for meeting the housing needs for low-income residents in the communities of Johnson County. Construction of affordable rental homes at scattered sites increases mixed-income neighborhoods. The rehabilitation of existing homes helps to improve and preserve neighborhoods.
The Housing Fellowship owns and manages 138 rental homes. The homes are a mix of housing types and include single family detached homes, duplexes, townhouses and condominiums. They are scattered throughout Iowa City and Coralville in order to afford low-income households a choice as to where and in what type of home they prefer to live. The Housing Fellowship has made a significant impact in our community; well over 450 people, mostly children, live in these homes.
The Housing Fellowship is committed to working with people who are participating in the Section 8 rental housing assistance program. Applications are welcome from people having a Section 8 rental housing voucher.
The Housing Fellowship operates under a policy to increase the stock of affordable homes. After debt retirement, rents are set at operating and replacement reserve costs. The home will then be within the affordable range of many very low-income residents without rental assistance.
